Aga Fuel

Chandlers Aga Fuel exclusively developed for Chandlers Oil & Gas to supply the best quality fuels to our customers.

The Benefits of Chandlers Aga Fuel

Lowers carbon and deposit build up
Stabiles the fuel
Inhibits sludge formation
Keeps the fuel fresher, for longer
Reduces service problems
Improves systems efficiency

In January 2008 an EU Directive came in force to lower the sulphur levels in Heating Oil, to produce a better environmentally friendly fuel. The Heating Oil works perfectly well of the majority of appliances which are boilers but due to the reduction of the sulphur levels in the new blend of Kerosene this is causing oil range cookers to “carbon up”.

Below is a frequently asked question section. however, if you have any further questions about Aga Fuel please contact our sales team, who will be happy to assist you. Your cooker will be happy you made the switch.

Chandlers Aga Fuel Q&As

Q: How does Chandlers Aga fuel work?
A: Chandlers Aga fuelhas special ingredients that help to prolong fuel shelf life and significantly decrease the coking tendency of the fuel thus increasing the system efficiency

Q: Can I mix Chandlers Aga fuel with the kerosene in my tank?
A: Yes, they will be completely compatible. Depending upon how much regular kerosene is already in you tank, the full benefit of the Aga fuel may not be achieved until the second fill-up

Q: I have one tank for the Aga and boiler, can I use Chandlers Aga fuel for both?
A: Yes, in fact this is preferable. The burner on an Aga is more sensitive to variations in fuel quality than is the pressure jet system on a boiler, so using the dedicated Aga fuel will lead to fewer problems and similar benefits on both units.

Q: I’ve used Topanol & Dipetane in my Aga Fuel previously, is Chandlers Aga fuel better than these?
A: Topanol is a diluted fuel antioxidant - that is, it contains generic active ingredients that inhibit a fuel’s ageing process. It is also toxic. Dipetane is a solvent with a high treat rate and is thought to impact only the gaseous emissions of the fuel not its stability or coking tendencies. Chandlers Aga fuel contains additives that have been screened and tested over a long period of time specifically for use in a vaporizing burner and are present in Chandlers Aga fuel in concentrated quantities making the fuel much more cost effective than simply using the drop in additives.

Q: I have a Rayburn, will Chandlers Aga fuel be ok to use for it?
A: Aga is used as a generic term for any range-style cooker or boiler. This would include then Rayburn, Stanley or Esse and Chandlers Aga fuel will work equally well in any of these ranges.

Q: If I use Chandlers Aga fuel, does this mean I don’t have to have the Aga serviced anymore?
A: No. It is always good practice to have any range or boiler serviced on a routine basis. Regular use of Chandlers Aga fuel will mean, however, that excessive servicing is eliminated and burner and combustion chamber cleaning is much easier.

Q: Can I use Chandlers Aga fuel, Topanol and Dipetane all together to get a better performance?
A: There is no reason why the products should not be mixed but the combination will not provide any enhanced fuel performance.

Q: What are the key benefits of Chandlers Aga fuel?
A: The tendency of Chandlers Aga fuel to reduce carbon build-up leads to a much improved system efficiency by keeping both the burner and the heat transfer surfaces cleaner for longer. Additionally fuel life is extended reducing the potential for solids build up in the storage tank which could lead to fuel system blockages.

Q: Will any warranties on my boiler and equipment be affected?
A: Any warranties on ranges and boilers will not be adversely affected by using Chandlers Aga fuel – in fact, most manufacturers and service engineers recognize the benefits.

Q: Will there by any adverse effects to the product in very cold or very hot temperatures?
A: Chandlers Aga fuel is no different to any other fuel product in its reactions to extremes of temperature. In the UK, however, the range of temperature is such that few fuel problems will be experienced and using this fuel will certainly help to reduce the accelerating ageing that can be associated with prolonged high temperatures.

Q: I have read that Chandlers Aga fuel works by avoiding deposits and operating
problems that can occur, but does it also instantaneously burn better in an existing clean system or have a higher energy content (e.g. calorific value)?
A: Chandlers Aga fuel does not have a higher energy content than standard domestic kerosene. It will help to keep an already clean system clean and, as a result, within the limits of design of the burner ensure that fuel combustion is as complete as possible further reducing smoke and solid build-up.

Q: Will Chandlers Aga fuel be compatible with my boiler and do I need to consult my
boiler engineer or boiler manufacturer first?
A: Chandlers Aga fuel is perfectly compatible with all boiler systems and there is no need to consult with either the manufacturer or your service engineer.

Q: I have told my engineer about Chandlers Aga fuel and he has some technical type questions that I cannot answer. Is there anyone we can talk to who can answer his questions?
A: By all means. Please refer technical enquiries to Dr. Bob Hall or Neil Ryding at FAST, Tel 01743 761415 or email. neil.ryding@fastexocet.co.uk.

Q: Can I extend my boiler service intervals if I use Chandlers Aga fuel?
A: We cannot reasonably quantify this without knowing your service history and would always advocate routine boiler and range servicing. However, if you are seeing the need to have the boiler or range serviced more than twice per year then this is excessive and by using Chandlers Aga fuel you should certainly see an increase in service interval.

Q: How long does it take for Chandlers Aga fuel to start providing the benefits?
A: Chandlers Aga fuel will start to benefit the system immediately but depending on the residual fuel quantity in the storage tank the benefits may be reduced until the second delivery. On a recently maintained, clean system the positive impact will be readily seen within 500 litres of fuel use.

Q: Many technical folks believe in-service problems are dictated by a fuel’s Char Value (IP 10 Method). Does Chandlers Aga fuel have a lower Char Value?
A: Yes, one of the ways in which the fuel works is by having a lower Char Value. The IP 10 method requires many tests on a fuel to arrive at a reliable result (the test is variable) but a Char Value in the region of 11.5 is not an unreasonable expectation.
